ICC Prosecutor Khan Says pursuing Libyan militia leaders and seeks cooperation on 'Engiem' case

International Criminal Court Prosecutor Karim Khan, during his semi-annual briefing to the UN Security Council, affirmed the court’s ongoing pursuit of several leaders of armed groups in Libya, citing documented evidence of their involvement in serious violations.

Khan pointed to the issuance of an arrest warrant for Osama Engiem, who subsequently fled to Libya via Italy. He emphasized that the court continues to track him and other individuals responsible for crimes, including pursuing legal measures such as the seizure and freezing of assets estimated at around £12 million abroad.

Khan added that the court has coordinated with the Government of National Unity regarding intervention to end repression within secret prisons belonging to the Deterrence Apparatus for Combating Organized Crime and Terrorism. He commended Prime Minister Abdul Hamid Dabaiba’s step in dismissing Osama Engiem from his position.

In his concluding remarks, Khan called on the Attorney General, Counselor Al-Siddiq al-Sour, to cooperate with the court on open cases, particularly the Engiem file, in preparation for his surrender to face international justice.
