On the sidelines of the third Ministerial Meeting of the African Union and the European Union, recently convened in Brussels, Al-Taher Al-Baour, the official tasked with managing the Office of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation within the Government of National Unity, met with Tete António, Angola’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Chairperson of the African Union Executive Council.
The discussions primarily focused on exploring avenues for enhancing bilateral cooperation between the two nations. Both parties also addressed the concerted efforts by the Presidential Council and the Government of National Unity to solidify the foundations of security and stability within the capital, Tripoli. Furthermore, they deliberated on mechanisms for providing necessary African support to Libya’s national processes.
The talks also encompassed a review of the latest developments on the Libyan political track, the national reconciliation file, and ongoing endeavours to unify civilian and military institutions. These discussions are framed within the broader preparations for holding presidential and parliamentary elections at the earliest possible juncture, thereby fulfilling the aspirations of the Libyan people for stability and democracy. This meeting is notably part of a continuous drive to bolster Libya’s presence in African forums and to underscore the backing of friendly nations for Libyan efforts aimed at building a stable and unified state.
