Martyrs’ Square in the capital, Tripoli, witnessed a massive demonstration on Friday as part of the “Friday of Decisiveness” protest, marking the second consecutive week of escalation. The protestors demand the dissolution of all current political entities, foremost among them the House of Representatives, the High Council of State, and both the Government of National Unity and the parallel government.
In their conclusive statement, the demonstrators announced the complete withdrawal of recognition from these institutions, deeming them “null and void.” They held these bodies fully responsible for the perpetuation of division and the ignition of conflicts across the nation.
The protestors urged the Presidential Council to shoulder its grave national responsibilities and issue an immediate decision to dissolve all existing political bodies. It further demanded that the Presidential council assume temporary administration of the country’s affairs, while setting 25 July 2025 as an irreversible final deadline for general elections and the completion of the stalled constitutional process.
The protesters underscored that the deadline for implementing these demands does not exceed 24 hours, warning that any disregard would lead to unprecedented escalation, including calls for widespread civil disobedience.
The statement also emphasised the continued civil and peaceful nature of the movement, appealing to the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) and the international community to respect the unequivocal will of the Libyan people and to actively contribute to supporting the transition towards the desired civil state.
The statement concluded with a firm assertion from the participants that “the voice of the people will not be suppressed, and there is no place for the corrupt on the pure land of Libya.”
