The Benghazi Antiquities Department and the Faculty of Science at Benghazi University are preparing for a joint project to preserve the skeleton of a colossal whale recently discovered in the city. This partnership commenced with a visit by Dr. Ahmed Al-Kawafi and Dr. Hussein Al-Barasi from the Faculty of Science to the Benghazi Antiquities Department’s headquarters, where they intended to examine the skeleton in preparation for its scientific study.

Ahmed Saad, a member of the Antiquities Authority’s board of directors, attended this visit. All attendees affirmed their full commitment to this project, which is expected to document and preserve this archaeological discovery.
Earlier, Sayeda Al-Sarawi, Head of the Museums and Archaeological Stores Department, had extended an invitation to Dr. Al-Kawafi to assist in developing an appropriate scientific mechanism for preserving the skeleton. The pieces have already been numbered and are being assembled by researcher Abdul Hafiz Najm, who leads the team tasked with the preservation and assembly process. Al-Sarawi indicated that a dedicated natural history exhibition hall would be allocated within the anticipated museum to house this skeleton.
