Eng. Balqasim Khalifa Haftar, Director-General of the Libya Reconstruction and Development Fund, conducted a field visit to the site of the new Benghazi International Airport project. He was accompanied by Hatem Al-Oraibi, Director of Projects Management, and several engineers from the Fund, to closely observe the ongoing work at this vital facility.
The delegation was received by Dr. Jibril Al-Badri, Head of the National Development Authority, alongside engineers and representatives from the international and local companies executing the project. Upon completion, this airport is set to be the largest of its kind in North Africa in terms of area and capacity, expected to serve over 15 million passengers annually. The new facility will feature an integrated air cargo terminal, a modern passenger lounge, and Libya’s first presidential lounge.
In a statement, Engineer Balqasim Haftar commended the efforts of the executive teams, praising their commitment to the established timeline and intensive work on site. He highlighted the project’s immense importance in meeting future air transport needs and achieving a qualitative leap in service standards.
For his part, Dr. Jibril Al-Badri affirmed that this project falls within the vision for developing vital state facilities. The new airport aims to bolster the country’s economic activity and meet the demands of future growth in the air transport sector
