The European Union accounts for 68% of Libya's oil exports between 2021 and 2024

The Central Bank of Libya released foreign trade data for the period from 2021 to 2024 today, Thursday, confirming the continued heavy reliance of the Libyan economy on oil, which constitutes 95% of total exports.
The Central Bank clarified that the country’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) reached $82.130 billion in 2024. Of this sum, exports accounted for $32.102 billion, while imports totalled $23.337 billion, resulting in a trade surplus of $ 8.765 billion.
According to the latest data, European Union countries commanded the largest share of Libyan exports during the specified period (2021-2024), ranking first with 68%. Asia followed with a 14% share, then Arab countries, which constituted 6% of the total exports during the same period, equalling the percentage of non-EU European countries. North, Central, and South American nations collectively represented 5%, while Africa, in partnership with Australia and New Zealand, came in last with a mere 1% of exports.
