The Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation for the Government of National Unity (GNU), Al-Taher Al-Baour, held a series of meetings in Changsha, China, on the sidelines of his participation in the ministerial-level coordinators’ meeting for implementing the outcomes of the Forum on China-Africa Cooperation. These engagements are part of broader Libyan efforts to revitalise diplomatic and developmental partnerships.
Al-Baour discussed with Somalia’s Foreign Minister, Abdisalam Abdi Ali, ways to develop relations between the two countries, emphasising the importance of cooperation in areas of stability and development. The Somali Minister declared his country’s full support for Libya, leveraging Somalia’s non-permanent membership in the Security Council for the 2025–2026 term. In return, Al-Baour reiterated Libya’s commitment to supporting Somalia’s stability, and an agreement was reached for an upcoming exchange of official visits.
In another meeting, Al-Baour convened with the Head of the China International Development Cooperation Agency, Chen Xiaodong. Discussions focused on the resumption of operations at the Chinese Embassy in Tripoli and the return of Chinese companies to Libya, alongside advancing cooperation in development sectors. Al-Baour extended a formal invitation to the Chinese official to visit Libya, a move aimed at strengthening bilateral collaboration.
