The Chief of Staff of the Ground Forces, Lieutenant General Saddam Haftar, participated in the second day of the extensive seminar for Chiefs of Staff of Ground Forces from 15 Mediterranean countries, currently being held in the city of Toulon, France.
Today’s activities featured discussions on several strategic axes, most notably ways to cooperate in confronting natural disasters affecting the region. Discussions also touched on the role of the military in enhancing national resilience and cohesion, particularly through its support for youth.
During the seminar, the Chief of Staff of the French Ground Forces, General Pierre Schill, extended a formal invitation to Lieut. General Saddam Haftar to visit the Civil Protection Brigade in the Southern Region of the French Army. This brigade actively participated in relief efforts during Daniel’s disaster in Derna in September 2023, by deploying a fully equipped field hospital.
The visit included a detailed visual presentation outlining the structure, missions, and advanced equipment of the French Civil Protection Unit. A practical scenario was also presented, illustrating rapid emergency response mechanisms and the unit’s capabilities to operate both within and outside French territory.
After the visit, Lieut. General Saddam Haftar expressed his appreciation to all entities that contributed support and assistance during the Derna catastrophe. He commended the role of local and international organisations, medical personnel, and search and rescue teams. He also praised the noble stances of friendly nations, particularly the French Republic, which stood alongside the Libyan people during one of the most difficult crises they have endured.
