The Arab Republic of Egypt has announced the necessity of adhering to strict regulatory procedures for requests to visit the border area with the Gaza Strip, specifically the city of Arish and the Rafah crossing. This declaration comes amidst a rise in inquiries and requests from foreign delegations wishing to visit the area to express solidarity with the Palestinians.
The Egyptian Ministry of Foreign Affairs confirmed that receiving these delegations is contingent upon obtaining prior approvals through official channels, whether via Egyptian embassies abroad, foreign embassies in Cairo, or through representatives of relevant organisations. The Ministry emphasised that any requests submitted outside this framework will not be considered, underscoring the seriousness of these controls.
This clarification comes at a time when Egypt continues its efforts at various levels to end the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip and to bring an end to the humanitarian catastrophe faced by over two million Palestinians.
Egypt emphasized the importance of complying with laws governing entry into its territory, including obtaining necessary visas and permits. This diligence is aimed at ensuring the safety of visiting delegations, given the sensitive security situation in the border areas since the outbreak of the crisis.
Cairo reiterated its steadfast position rejecting the siege and Israeli violations against the Palestinian people. Egypt called for genuine international pressure on Israel to open crossings and facilitate the passage of humanitarian aid into the Strip, emphasising the urgent need to address humanitarian requirements.
