The Undersecretary of the Libyan Government of National Unity’s Ministry of Defence, Abdul Salam Zoubi, has concluded an official visit to the Turkish capital, Ankara. During his trip, Zoubi met with Turkish Defence Minister Yaşar Güler and his Turkish counterpart, as part of efforts to enhance military cooperation between the two nations.
Pact to modernise Libyan forces
During the visit, the Libyan Ministry of Defence signed a cooperation agreement with its Turkish counterpart. This accord aims to elevate the efficiency and develop the capabilities of the Libyan Army, forming a key component of a comprehensive programme to modernise the Libyan military establishment.
The agreement encompasses several cooperation clauses, including advanced military training, exchange of expertise, and technical and logistical support. These provisions are designed to significantly bolster the readiness and enhance the professional and operational competence of the Libyan Army.
Strategic partnership reaffirmed
Following the signing, Libyan Undersecretary of Defence, Abdul Salam Zoubi, affirmed that the agreement represents a crucial step within the ministry’s plan to qualify and develop Libyan Army personnel. He lauded the profound strategic relationship linking Libya and Turkey in the military and defence sectors.
For its part, the Turkish side reiterated its commitment to continue supporting Libya in its endeavours to develop its defence capabilities, underscoring the enduring bilateral partnership as a mutual benefit for security and stability in both countries.
