Ambassador Tarek Dahroug, Egypt’s Assistant Foreign Minister and Director of the Libya Department, has affirmed Cairo’s continued support for comprehensive dialogue among all Libyan parties. He underscored the critical necessity of unifying the executive authority on legitimate and consensual foundations, paving the way for a comprehensive political settlement.
Dahroug explained in press statements that the solution in Libya must be political, drawing upon the outcomes of the Berlin Conference, UN Security Council resolutions, and the Skhirat Agreement, all considered fundamental references for the Libyan political process.
He pointed out that Libya’s security is an extension of the security of Egypt and the broader region. He reaffirmed his country’s absolute rejection of any attempts by external forces or organisations to exploit Libyan territory in a manner that threatens the security of neighbouring states.
The Egyptian official further reiterated his country’s support for the legitimate institutions emerging from inter-Libyan consensus, while emphasising the imperative of respecting Libya’s national sovereignty and rejecting any dictates or foreign interventions in Libyan internal affairs.
