The National Centre for the Treatment and Rehabilitation of Addicts has announced that it received 759 addiction cases during the first half of 2025. These cases originated from 32 municipalities across various regions of the country.

In a statement, the Centre clarified that medical consultation was provided to 434 cases, while 325 cases were admitted to the Centre’s facilities for specialised treatment and care. It also noted the successful recovery of 277 individuals upon completing their treatment programme.

The Centre indicated that the age range of admitted patients was between 17 and 34 years, while recovered cases spanned a broader age range of 17 to 49 years. This reflects the effectiveness of the treatment programme and its capacity to address diverse age groups.

The Centre confirmed that 78% of all recovered cases were under the age of 30. According to statistics, 49 patients under 20 years old (born 2005-2025) were admitted, 168 patients between 20 and 30 years old (born 1995-2004), 49 patients under 40 years old (born 1985-1994), and 11 patients under 50 years old (born 1975-1984).

Patients admitted and treated hailed from 32 cities. The methods of admission varied: 178 individuals attended voluntarily, 128 were admitted by their relatives, and 19 patients were referred by the Public Prosecution Office. Among recovered individuals, 147 returned voluntarily, 111 through their relatives, and 19 via the Public Prosecution Office.

Psychological Treatment

The Centre disclosed that it conducted 2,116 individual, group, and family therapy sessions (1,460 individual sessions, 491 group sessions, and 165 family sessions) under the supervision of 12 psychologists in the department. The focus was on addressing the psychological and social roots that led to addiction.

The Centre also performed tests on 1,285 individuals who visited the Centre or were referred by competent authorities to determine drug use. 495 cases tested positive, with analyses revealing the use of cannabis, tramadol, sedatives, ecstasy, cocaine, areca nut, opiates (heroin, morphine, codeine), amphetamines, and antidepressants.

Medical Screenings

The National Centre for Addiction Treatment and Rehabilitation conducted routine check-ups for 197 residents during the first half of the current year. Additionally, injections were administered to 287 others, blood samples were taken from 406 residents, and dressings were changed for 75 residents.

The dental clinic provided medical examinations for 500 cases, performed nerve and cosmetic light fillings (temporary and permanent) for 439 residents, extractions for 53 others, and gum cleaning for 90 others.

Courses and Rehabilitation

The Centre also organised two training courses in domestic electrical wiring and computer fundamentals, along with three lectures on preparing small and medium-sized projects and therapeutic nutrition. Daily Quran memorisation lessons, sermons and guidance sessions between Maghrib and Isha prayers were also provided, in addition to 127 morning sports sessions.

These efforts aim to rehabilitate patients, helping them develop self-capacities and training them in vocational and technical professions that occupy their free time, nurture their talents and abilities, and create employment opportunities. Furthermore, these programmes seek to restore residents’ physical fitness and enhance their mental health. The number of residents who benefited from the rehabilitation programmes reached 231.

Awareness lectures were also organised, attended by 100 students from the Air Defence College in Tripoli and 140 residents of the Centre. The campaign included educational lectures on addiction and its dangers.
