The Head of the Presidential Council, Mohamed Al-Menfi, received a high-level diplomatic delegation from the United Kingdom at the Council’s headquarters in the capital, Tripoli. The delegation was led by the Minister for Middle East and North Africa Affairs, Faulkner Hemshe, and the meeting was attended by the British Ambassador to Libya, Martin Longden, along with several accompanying officials.
The discussions covered bilateral relations between Libya and the United Kingdom, and ways to strengthen them to serve the common interests of both countries. The two sides also examined the latest political, security, and economic developments currently unfolding in Libya.
Furthermore, attention was given to the Presidential Council Head’s decisions regarding the formation of two committees: one concerned with the truce and security and military arrangements, and the second a human rights committee tasked with monitoring prison conditions and ensuring the safety of detention centres. This initiative falls within the framework of efforts aimed at solidifying the ceasefire and promoting stability in the capital.
For his part, the British Minister commended the positive steps being led by President Al-Menfi to advance the peace process and bridge viewpoints among the conflicting Libyan parties. Hemshe affirmed his country’s keenness to closely monitor developments in Libya and its full readiness to support the political track, thereby ensuring a lasting solution that restores the Libyan state’s security, stability, and full sovereignty.
