The Office of the Attorney General has ordered the detention of five suspects pending investigation, after charges were brought against them for holding and trafficking migrants, as well as torturing them to extort ransoms from their relatives. These judicial proceedings follow a case uncovered by the Ajdabiya Security Directorate.
This action came after the Directorate received precise intelligence about the activities of a criminal group specialising in smuggling migrants and holding them in extremely harsh conditions. Consequently, the judicial police officer proceeded to the targeted location, where security forces succeeded in freeing 104 migrants who were suffering from torture and inhumane treatment. Five suspects were apprehended red-handed during the detention.
The Public Prosecution immediately launched a meticulous investigation into the circumstances of the case, reviewing all available evidence and witness testimonies from those detained. The investigations confirmed the charges against the suspects, leading the prosecution to issue an order for their pre-trial detention.
