The Central Bank of Libya, in collaboration with the Government of National Unity, hosted a specialised workshop titled “The Role of the Banking Sector in Reactivating Stalled Housing Projects and Urban Development.” The workshop saw the participation of the Bank’s Governor, Naji Issa, alongside several bank chairmen and general managers, in addition to representatives from government entities and real estate developers.

The workshop primarily addressed mechanisms for financing housing projects. The Governor emphasised the pressing need to activate funding tools and streamline banking procedures, which would support the resumption of stalled projects. He also stressed the crucial importance of close cooperation between banks and official institutions to achieve this vital goal.

Faisal bin Dardaf, the Director General of the National Housing and Real Estate Development Programme, presented a detailed overview, reviewing the anticipated housing needs until 2030. He also discussed the Prime Minister’s initiative aimed at completing 150,000 housing units as part of the 2025-2030 plan. Bin Dardaf underscored the significance of coordinating efforts among all relevant parties and the necessity of engaging young and professional competencies in developing this vital sector.

Participants in the workshop collectively agreed on the imperative to accelerate steps towards completing the stalled housing projects and to support investment in the real estate sector as an effective tool for improving citizens’ living standards and creating new job opportunities.
