Benghazi Medical Centre has so far performed 19 open-heart surgeries on children as part of an ongoing medical cooperation programme with a specialised visiting team from the Arab Republic of Egypt. The visiting team is led by Dr. Al-Atafi Al-Mutawali, a consultant paediatric cardiac surgeon.
The programme aims to conduct 40 surgical procedures during the current visit. This initiative represents a significant step towards providing advanced surgical care within Libya and reducing the need to refer patients abroad, particularly in critical cases involving children.
This humanitarian endeavour receives direct support from the General Command of the Armed Forces, with personal oversight from Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar. These efforts are also undertaken in cooperation with the Presidency of the Council of Ministers and the Medical Supply Agency.
This collaboration underscores Benghazi Medical Centre’s commitment to localising advanced medical services and leveraging Arab medical expertise. This contributes to enhancing the performance of local cadres and elevating the standard of healthcare provided to children in Libya.
