The Head of the Libyan Olympic Committee, Jamal Al-Zarrouk, hosted Osama Al-Tarous, the Libyan President of the African Billiards and Snooker Confederation, yesterday, Wednesday, at the Committee’s headquarters in Tripoli. This meeting underscores national pride in Libyan talents securing prominent continental and international sporting positions.
During the meeting, Al-Zarrouk praised Al-Tarous’s efforts in achieving his current role, considering the presence of Libyan figures in leadership positions a reflection of the administrative and technical development of Libyan sports. He added that this presence also opens wide doors for Libya to host various African billiards and snooker tournaments within the country, thereby enhancing national teams’ readiness and elevating their competitive level.
The meeting also featured an exchange of shields, emblems, and commemorative gifts in a celebratory atmosphere that reflected the spirit of cooperation and mutual support between the Libyan Olympic Committee and the African Confederation.
For his part, Osama Al-Tarous affirmed that assuming the presidency of the African Confederation represents a pivotal step in strengthening Libya’s standing on the continental map of the sport. He noted ongoing coordination with the Libyan Olympic Committee to host several tournaments, most notably the African Billiards and Snooker Championship scheduled for next December.
Al-Tarous also revealed plans to organise free training camps for the Libyan national team in Morocco, Scotland, and Bahrain, in preparation for upcoming international competitions. This initiative is part of a comprehensive development plan aimed at raising the sport’s standard locally and ensuring Libya is represented in the best possible light on the global stage.
