Egyptian construction giant Arab Contractors has launched a topographic survey for a major overland highway connecting Egypt, Libya, and Chad. The survey was conducted last Friday using a drone equipped with LiDAR technology, covering a 10-kilometre stretch in approximately 30 minutes. The operation was overseen by Chad’s Minister of Infrastructure, Isolation Reduction, and Road Maintenance, Amir Idriss Korda, alongside the company’s local representative, Mohamed El-Qeai.
The project is seen as a strategic priority by Egyptian authorities, expected to boost trade flows and facilitate the movement of goods and people across the three countries. According to government data released in February, the highway will span a total of 1,720 kilometres, divided into three segments:
– Egyptian sector: 400 km
– Libyan sector: 390 km
– Chadian sector: 930 km
Once completed, the route will form a vital commercial artery, linking landlocked Chad to Mediterranean ports and enhancing regional connectivity across North and Central Africa.
