Egyptian Foreign Minister Badr Abdel Aaty met with US Senator David McCormick in Washington for high-level discussions on a series of regional flashpoints, including Libya, Syria, and maritime security in the Red Sea.
In his meeting with McCormick, Chair of the Senate Foreign Relations subcommittee on the Middle East, South Asia, Central Asia, and Counterterrorism, Abdel Aaty underscored Egypt’s efforts to broker a ceasefire in Gaza and facilitate the exchange of hostages and prisoners. He also highlighted the humanitarian catastrophe unfolding in the besieged territory, reiterating Cairo’s plan to host an international conference focused on early recovery and reconstruction.
The talks extended to the stalled political process in Libya and Syria, where both sides exchanged views on how to restore stability. Maritime security in the Red Sea was also a priority, amid growing global concern over shipping routes and regional tensions.
On the economic front, Abdel Aaty welcomed the growing momentum in Egypt-US trade ties. He cited the Egypt-US Business Forum held in Cairo this May, which drew over 50 American companies and signaled fresh interest in Egypt’s energy, pharmaceutical, and digital sectors. The minister emphasized that recent economic reforms aim to draw foreign capital and incentivize US firms to tap into Egypt’s investment potential.
