Libya’s school sports delegation wrapped up its participation in the inaugural African School Games held in Algeria from 24 July to 6 August 2025, securing a commendable total of seven medals, two silver and five bronze, amid fierce competition from across the continent.
The team, representing the Ministry of Education, competed in a range of disciplines including basketball (5×5 and 3×3), taekwondo, equestrian, swimming, fencing, and judo. Taekwondo athlete Mohamed Atiwa earned Libya’s first silver medal, while the second came from the show jumping equestrian team comprising Hala Ben Hariz, Abdullah Al-Muheishi, Mohamed Attaallah, and Abdulmuhaymin Al-Hattab.
The five bronze medals were distributed across three in taekwondo, won by Ghina Belhaj, Ahmed Fathi, and Ali Al-Alwani; one in endurance equestrian by riders Fateh Abu Sitta, Sayed Mustafa, Abdullah Nurebil, and Abdulwadood Dabaj; and one in the 5×5 basketball event.
