The second edition of the public health campaign “Complete the Two Years” concluded this week at the Benghazi Medical Centre, drawing over a thousand women to raise awareness about the benefits of breastfeeding. The initiative was jointly organised by the Community Service and Environmental Development Office at the University of Benghazi’s Faculty of Medicine, in collaboration with the centre’s community outreach office and the Libyan Breastfeeding Organisation.
Dr. Manal Al-Jarbi, head of the university’s community service office, highlighted the campaign’s focus on the role of breastfeeding in boosting infant immunity and regulating maternal hormonal balance after childbirth. Ahmed Belashhar, director of community outreach at Benghazi Medical Centre, noted the campaign’s success across multiple locations in the city and its impact in delivering key health messages to the public.
The closing day featured scientific sessions and open discussions presenting the latest medical research on breastfeeding. Organisers called for stronger support for mothers during the first two years of a child’s life to ensure healthy development.
