The United Arab Emirates has called for an immediate end to the conflict in Sudan, accusing one of the warring factions, the so-called Port Sudan authority, of spreading falsehoods and undermining peace efforts.
In a statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday, the UAE reaffirmed its commitment to supporting a civilian-led process that prioritizes the needs of the Sudanese people over political interests. The ministry stressed that since the outbreak of war, the UAE has consistently backed regional and international initiatives aimed at securing a ceasefire, protecting civilians, and ensuring accountability for violations committed by all parties involved.
The statement condemned what it described as a “systematic campaign of fabricated claims” by the Port Sudan authority, accusing it of deliberately sabotaging efforts to restore stability. These false allegations, the UAE said, are part of a calculated strategy to deflect responsibility, shift blame, and prolong the conflict by obstructing genuine peace negotiations.
The war in Sudan, which erupted in April 2023 between the national army and the paramilitary Rapid Support Forces led by Mohamed Hamdan Dagalo (Hemeti), has resulted in tens of thousands of deaths and the displacement of millions. The humanitarian crisis has strained Sudan’s international relations, including its ties with the UAE.
The UAE reiterated its determination to work closely with global partners to foster dialogue, mobilize international support, and contribute to initiatives that address the humanitarian emergency and lay the groundwork for lasting peace.
