Egypt’s national basketball team continued its dominant run in the 2025 AfroBasket tournament, securing a third consecutive victory by defeating Uganda 77–64 in the final match of Group D. Under the leadership of coach Mohamed El-Kordany, they finished the group stage with a flawless 6-point tally, clinching top spot.
Senegal claimed second place in the group after beating Mali 84–70, ending with 5 points, while Mali settled for third with 4 points.
In stark contrast, Libya’s campaign came to a disappointing end following a third straight defeat—this time to Guinea 83–55—leaving them winless and officially out of contention in Group C.
Egypt now advances to the quarter-finals, scheduled for August 21, where they will face the winner of the playoff between the runner-up of Group B and the third-placed team from Group A.
Elsewhere in the tournament:
- Group A: Côte d’Ivoire leads with 4 points, followed by Cape Verde and DR Congo (3 points each), and Rwanda (2 points).
- Group B: Nigeria tops the group on goal difference over Cameroon, both with 4 points, while Madagascar and Tunisia trail with 2 points.
The tournament, hosted in Angola, runs through August 24 and features 16 teams competing for continental glory.
