Morocco has emerged as the leading car manufacturer in the Middle East and North Africa for 2024, producing a total of 559,600 vehicles, according to figures from the International Organization of Motor Vehicle Manufacturers (OICA).
On the continental scale, Morocco ranked second in Africa, trailing only South Africa, which recorded 599,700 vehicles. The Moroccan auto industry saw a 5% increase in 2023, propelling the country to 23rd globally among top producers. Meanwhile, South Africa’s output declined by a similar margin, placing it 20th worldwide, as reported by Al Omk.
Morocco is actively expanding its automotive sector, with a strategic focus on electric and hybrid vehicles, aiming to align with global shifts toward sustainable transport.
Globally, China maintained its dominance, manufacturing 31.2 million vehicles in 2024, driven by robust domestic demand and aggressive growth in EV production. The United States and Japan held their positions among the top three producers, with the trio accounting for 54% of the world’s total output, which reached 92 million vehicles
