The Speaker of the Libyan House of Representatives, Aguila Saleh, welcomed the recent briefing by UN Special Representative Hanna Tetteh before the Security Council, praising her clear call for the formation of a unified government within two months to prepare for simultaneous presidential and parliamentary elections.
Saleh described the proposal as a crucial step toward consolidating executive authority and reinforcing national unity. He expressed full support for the initiative, emphasizing its potential to unify state institutions, safeguard Libya’s sovereignty, and fulfill the aspirations of the Libyan people for security, development, and prosperity.
He also reaffirmed that the current government, led by Prime Minister Osama Hamad, remains the legitimate authority endorsed by the House of Representatives. Saleh stressed that any future arrangements must respect this legitimacy and ensure continuity until the political process reaches its intended conclusion.
