Abdel Salam Zoubi, Deputy Minister of Defense in the Government of National Unity, has called on the relevant military authorities, the Military Prosecutor, along with the Intelligence and Military Police Departments, to urgently investigate the attempted assassination of Muammar Al-Dhawi, commander of the 55th Infantry Battalion. The incident occurred early Sunday in the Qarquza area, southwest of Tripoli.
In an official statement, Zoubi emphasized the need to swiftly uncover the circumstances of the attack, identify the parties involved, and hold those responsible to account. He described the incident as a direct threat to the country’s military and security stability.
Earlier, Battalion 55 confirmed that its commander had survived the attack while present in the Al-Maamoura (Qarquza) area. A convoy belonging to the battalion was ambushed by an armed group of African mercenaries, triggering clashes that lasted around thirty minutes and resulted in the deaths of twelve assailants.
