The Presidential Council has responded to the Government of National Unity’s decision to settle its debts to African Airlines, asserting that it has independent financial liability and denying that any financial obligations are due from it. The Council called on regulatory bodies to audit its accounts.
The response follows an announcement by African Airlines in a statement on Wednesday that the Government of National Unity had already begun the process of settling the Presidential Council’s debts, amounting to 57.785 million dinars. The statement clarified that these debts date back to the term of the council’s former president, Fayez al-Sarraj.
In a previous statement, African Airlines had explained that the payment process would be completed in two instalments: the first valued at 46.950 million dinars, and the second at 10.835 million dinars.
