During a meeting with the Deputy Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General, Stephanie Khoury, a Tebu delegation expressed concern about their limited representation in political institutions. The delegation called for increased participation in decision-making structures at both local and national levels.
The 12-member delegation included political, tribal, and legal figures, as well as members of social councils, representatives of youth and women, and civil society activists. They emphasised that their representation is a fundamental right, not a privilege, and called for the establishment of an effective coordination mechanism between the UN mission and the Tebu community to ensure genuine participation in the constitutional, electoral, and institutional tracks.
For her part, Khoury outlined the political roadmap aimed at unifying institutions and holding national elections to end the transitional period. She stressed the necessity of all cultural components participating effectively in the political process. She also discussed the structured dialogue on economic, security, governmental, and reconciliation policies.
The meeting concluded with one of the participants delivering a speech in the Tebu dialect, highlighting the richness of Libya’s cultural fabric. Khoury expressed her desire to visit communities in the south to listen directly to residents and understand their priorities.
