Britain has affirmed its support for the political process in Libya during a meeting between the Chairman of the Presidential Council, Mohamed Al-Manfi, and a British delegation led by Vice Admiral Edward Ahlgren, the Senior Advisor for Middle East and North Africa at the Ministry of Defence. The British Ambassador to Libya, Martin Longden, was also present.
During the meeting, which took place today, Tuesday, the two sides discussed prospects for bilateral cooperation in the fields of security, defence, counter-terrorism, and combating illegal migration. They also addressed ways to support the capabilities of the Libyan military establishment.
For his part, al-Menfi praised Britain’s stance, reiterating his commitment to developing cooperation with international partners in a way that preserves Libya’s unity and sovereignty and serves regional and international security.
Ahlgren confirmed the strong relationship between London and Tripoli, noting the important role of the Presidential Council in establishing stability and avoiding armed conflict.
Both sides confirmed the importance of continuing coordination and consultation on shared issues and enhancing cooperation across various fields.
