Co-chairs of the Berlin Process Security Working Group commended efforts to reach an agreement between Libya’s Government of National Unity and the Deterrence Apparatus. In a joint statement, they called for an urgent resolution of outstanding issues and the implementation of any agreement within a clear timeframe and through concrete, actionable steps.
The statement urged all parties to exercise restraint and avoid any actions that could endanger civilians.
This position followed a meeting held on September 4, attended by the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), the African Union, France, Italy, Turkey, and the United Kingdom. Key Libyan figures were also present, including the Chief of General Staff for the Western Region, the Head of the Truce Committee, the Advisor to the Presidential Council, and a representative of the Security and Military Arrangements Committee
