Over the past three consecutive days, the capitals of Libya and Russia, Tripoli and Moscow, hosted a series of events marking the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between the two countries, formally established on September 4, 1955.
In a recorded speech during a ceremony organized by the Libyan Embassy in Moscow, Al-Taher Al-Baour, Acting Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, described the occasion as a testament to the deep and multifaceted ties between the two peoples. He noted that Libya and Russia have navigated a long and challenging path, yet maintained a consistent desire to strengthen their partnership.
Al-Baour emphasized Russia’s longstanding support for Libya on the international stage, which the Libyan people have deeply appreciated. He stressed that, in today’s complex global climate, close coordination between the two nations is more vital than ever, and affirmed Libya’s confidence in the partnership’s ability to play a central role in promoting security and shared development.
Russian Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Maria Zakharova affirmed Moscow’s commitment to Libya’s unity and stability. She highlighted the legacy of cooperation dating back to the Soviet era, which contributed to dozens of vital projects in Libya.
Russian Ambassador to Libya, Haidar Aganin, affirmed that the historic relationship between the two nations is built on solid foundations of friendship and mutual respect, expressing confidence in its continued growth.
In Tripoli, Libyan diplomats and a high-level Russian delegation attended a cultural event hosted by the Libyan Association of Russian Speakers at the Libyan Center for Research and Studies.
