The General Directorate of Coastal Security, Oil Crescent Branch, in cooperation with the General Services Company and the 166th Infantry Brigade, oversaw the burial of four deceased Sperm Whales on the beach of the Amrir Qabis area. The operation was carried out to prevent any negative environmental effects on citizens.
The decision was made based on a recommendation from the Marine Organisms Research Center and the Ministry of Marine Resources, after samples were taken from the whales for study to determine the cause of their stranding and death.
The four whales were washed ashore by waves last Thursday morning, September 4, 2025. This is a rare occurrence, as Sperm Whales are deep-ocean creatures that rarely come to the coast.
Supervising authorities confirmed that the burial process was conducted smoothly and through dedicated national efforts, with no side effects reported. Monitoring by the relevant authorities will continue to ensure the safety of the marine and coastal environment.
