In a breakthrough for healthcare in Sirte, Ibn Sina Teaching Hospital successfully carried out its first kidney transplant surgeries on Saturday, offering new hope to patients suffering from renal failure and freeing them from the burden of continuous dialysis.
The procedures were conducted in the hospital’s main operating rooms with support from the General Command of the Libyan Arab Armed Forces and under the sponsorship of the National Development Authority. A visiting medical team from the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan collaborated with local urology staff to implement the program.
Organizers credited the achievement to direct backing from Deputy Commander-in-Chief, General Saddam Khalifa Haftar, and to the joint efforts of national medical personnel and international expertise, which helped overcome the challenges of such complex operations.
The hospital administration emphasized that the surgeries were performed under strict sterilization protocols and supervised by an infection control team, in full compliance with safety and quality standards. They described the initiative as the beginning of a new chapter in treating kidney failure in Sirte.
The event concluded with heartfelt wishes from medical teams and hospital officials for the success of the operations and full recovery of both patients and donors, marking a bright new page in the city’s healthcare journey.
