Libya is participating in the Youth Muay Thai World Championship held in the United Arab Emirates with a sports delegation of 20 athletes from various age categories. The tournament brings together over 1,200 male and female competitors from more than 100 countries and is organized under the patronage of the UAE Ministry of Sports.
The championship runs until September 19, with preliminary matches starting Saturday from 12 p.m. to 8 p.m. daily, in a professionally organized and highly competitive setting.
The event includes a parade of participating national teams, an oath ceremony by referees and coaches, and cultural performances reflecting the diversity of the competing nations, followed by the official opening of the tournament.
Muay Thai, also known as Thai boxing, is one of Asia’s oldest martial arts. It is characterized by the use of eight points of contact—hands, elbows, knees, and legs—earning it the title “Art of Eight Limbs.” What began as a local tradition has evolved into a global sport featured in major international competitions.
