Libya took part in the 8th extraordinary session of the General Conference of the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO), which was dedicated to discussing the appointment of an Assistant Director-General.
The Libyan delegation included Mr. Wissam Al-Taher, Secretary-General of the Libyan National Commission for Education, Culture and Science, along with a member of ALECSO’s Executive Council, the Director of the Secretary-General’s Office, and a program specialist.
Despite the importance of the position, no suitable candidate was presented during the session. As a result, the conference decided to reopen nominations starting October 1, 2025. The submitted candidates will be reviewed during the 28th regular session of the General Conference, scheduled to be held in the Sultanate of Oman in the first half of 2026.
The Libyan National Commission reaffirmed its commitment to active participation in international forums, reflecting Libya’s role in supporting Arab cooperation in education, culture, and science, and strengthening its institutional presence in regional organizations
