The Ministry of Culture and Knowledge Development of the Government of National Unity has launched a leadership training program on managing cultural and creative industries, in collaboration with the Arab League Educational, Cultural and Scientific Organization (ALECSO).
During the launch ceremony, Minister Mabrouka Toghi Osman affirmed that the program is part of a national vision aimed at empowering Libyan talents and developing their capabilities in the cultural sector. She noted that this sector is a fundamental pillar for building national identity and promoting a knowledge-based economy.
Toghi emphasized that cultural and creative industries are now a key driver of development and innovation. She also announced the launch of a National Strategy for Cultural and Creative Industries, which seeks to create a supportive environment for these sectors to help diversify income sources and strengthen the national economy. She highlighted the importance of establishing a national body under the Ministry of Culture to oversee these industries and implement related recommendations.
Ahmed Habibi, ALECSO’s representative, explained that the workshop will cover the mechanisms and historical evolution of cultural industries. He pointed out that global revenues from this sector have, in some indicators, surpassed oil revenues, with an estimated value of over $6 trillion. Habibi affirmed that the Minister’s vision for creating a dedicated space for cultural industries will contribute to taking Libyan culture global.
The event included a visual presentation on the cooperation between the Ministry and ALECSO, followed by the opening of the training program. The program, which runs until next Saturday, will feature a series of lectures and workshops on the creative economy and the role of cultural industries in supporting sustainable development.
