Khaled Youssef, Director of the Media Office at the Sirte Free Zone, announced the arrival of the port’s fi rst tug and pilot vessel—a significant step toward upgrading the maritime equipment fleet and enhancing services for commercial ships along Libya’s coast.
Youssef explained that the new vessel is equipped with high towing power and advanced maneuvering capabilities. It features modern navigation and pilotage systems, sophisticated logistical support tools, and specialized safety and fire-fighting equipment, all designed to improve operational efficiency and accelerate cargo handling at the port.
He added that the tug represents a strategic addition to the Free Zone’s broader plan to position Sirte Port as Libya’s leading hub in terms of handling speed and service quality.
Captain Mohamed Al-Naas, Director of the Advisors Office at the Free Zone, noted that the vessel measures 33 meters in length and 8 meters in width, powered by a 1,500-horsepower engine. This allows it to manage large vessels and significantly improve navigational performance within the port.
