Acting Foreign Minister of Libya’s Government of National Unity, Taher Al-Baour, is meeting today, Wednesday, with his Greek counterpart Giorgos Gerapetritis in Athens to discuss the resumption of maritime boundary negotiations between the two countries.

According to the Greek outlet To Vima, the talks will focus on delineating exclusive economic zones and the continental shelf in the eastern Mediterranean, alongside discussions on strengthening economic and trade relations and coordinating efforts on irregular migration, which has recently surged toward the island of Crete.

The visit comes amid prior tensions, notably Libya’s formal memorandum to the United Nations dated June 20, protesting Greece’s maritime claims in the region.

Athens has expressed hope that the meeting will lead to a clear framework and timeline for restarting negotiations. The two ministers are also expected to explore opportunities for expanding investment and trade partnerships, while reinforcing cooperation to manage migration flows more effectively.
